Half the Illawarra backs onto bushland, reserve or the escarpment itself. An asset protection zone is a managed strip of reduced fuel between that vegetation and your house, and it is the single thing most likely to decide whether the house survives an ember attack.

You get a person, not a call centre. A photo of the tree and your side access is usually enough for us to price it accurately.

A qualified arborist walks the site, checks species, structure, access and council status, then writes a fixed price. Free, no pressure.

Approvals if you need them
If council wants an application, we tell you up front and write the arborist report that goes with it. If you are in a 10/50 area we check that instead.

The questions everyone asks.
Do I need council approval to remove a tree in Wollongong?
Usually, yes. Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama councils all regulate tree removal through their DCP and Tree Management provisions, and most trees over a set height or trunk size are protected. There are exemptions, and there are species that are not covered, and there is the separate 10/50 bushfire entitlement if your property sits in a mapped area.
We check which applies to your address before we quote, and if an application is needed we can write the arborist report that goes with it.
How much does tree removal cost in the Illawarra?
Most residential removals land between $450 and $4,000. The things that move the number are height, access, what sits underneath the tree, and whether the stump goes as well. A small ornamental in an open Dapto backyard is at the bottom. A mature blackbutt on a steep Mount Keira block with no side access and powerlines through the canopy is at the top.
Every quote is fixed and in writing. We do not quote hourly.
What actually happens to my tree after you take it away?
It gets used. Limbs and foliage go through the chipper and become garden mulch. Hardwood rounds get split and seasoned into firewood. The occasional trunk worth saving gets slabbed for timber. Almost nothing goes to landfill, which is where the name came from.
If you want the mulch left on site for your own garden beds, say so before we start and we will drop a pile wherever you like at no charge.
Do you cover my suburb?
We are based in Farmborough Heights and cover a 50km radius around Wollongong. That takes in all of Wollongong City and Shellharbour, Kiama down to Gerringong and Berry, Robertson and the Southern Highlands, Appin and Wilton, and as far north as Helensburgh and the southern Sutherland Shire.
No call-out fees and no travel surcharges inside that radius.
Are you insured?
Fully insured, including public liability and workers compensation. Certificates of currency go out by email the same day you ask. If a contractor hesitates when you ask for them, that tells you something.
Will you top my tree if I ask you to?
No. Topping strips the tree of the canopy it feeds itself with and triggers a mess of fast, weakly attached regrowth that becomes a bigger hazard within a few years. If a tree is genuinely too big for its position the honest options are a proper crown reduction or removal and replanting with something that fits. We will walk you through both.
